The
Gospel Hall Chapel, formerly known as the Wickham Market Gospel Hall is an
independant Christian Church that was established in the village of Wickham
Market during the early 1900’s. In the early days of the Church, services were
held in other buildings within the village, until in 1921 due to the increasing
number of people attending, the present building was acquired from the
Salvation Army. The Church continued to be known as the Wickham Market Gospel
Hall until 1995 when it was felt that the name should be changed to include
either the word Church or Chapel. However it was also felt likely that since a
large number of people had lived within the village all or much of their lives,
many of whom had at one time attended either the Sunday Services or Mid-Week
Activities, that there would be those who would still refer to the Church as
the Gospel Hall. As a result of this a compromise was agreed and the name was
shortened to Gospel Hall Chapel.
Whilst much has changed since the early nineteen hundreds, Services
and Activities continue to take place regularly. We would like to take this
opportunity to extend a warm invitation to all to join us for these if you are
able.
